Intermezzo 2 [the exhibition outside itself]

A very common critique to the contemporary smart and connected world is that everyone is going around constantly staring at to his or her smartphone. The internet changed the way interpersonal relationships work. We think that we are technologically social but in reality we are getting physically asocial.

Thinking back to the structure of the theatre piece, everyone in a pause of the play takes their phone and checks if they received some message on diaspora*.

Intermezzo 2 works – like the Intermezzo 1 – as a bridge between Akt II and Akt III. The theme of these two acts are, as we know, the interpersonal relationships (II) and then the personal space within society (III). Intermezzo 2 anticipated the Akt III, which focuses on the individuality. We explored this social dimension directly from the devices that we all look at constantly.

At the same time, Intermezzo 2 is a continuation of the discussion of the Intermezzo 1. Last time we thought about the structure of the art bubble and what could be the strategies to go outside from it.
This time, as a logical consequence, we will try to go outside ourselves.

During the exhibition opening the side project of 1+1=3 “The Dream of the Moving Sculpture“ by Zohar Gotesman was introduced. The project was curated by Kathrin Oberrauch, Eau&Gaz - Artist in Residency Program in Eppan / Appiano, South Tyrol.

9 wireless hotspot “1+1=3” were created in the city. The visitors who visited the exhibition in the Studio House of Museion were given the map and the instructions how to log in the hotspots. They could make a tour in the city and visit the various websites spread through the city, looking at the different contents sent by the artists involved in the show.
